In the troubled northwestern region of Katsina State, Abubakar Mohammed, the representative of Funtua Constituency in the Katsina State House of Assembly, has taken a bold step to protect his constituents from persistent attacks by armed bandits.

Mohammed, in response to the pleas of the residents, acquired and distributed 50 firearms to volunteer groups within the community of Funtua. These groups, including those in Dikiya Makira, Maigamji, Tudun Iya Maska, and Goya, have been at the forefront of defending the rural areas surrounding Funtua against bandit attacks.

The distribution of these firearms was not a move for internal conflict among the people of Funtua. Instead, it was a strategic move to equip the volunteers to defend themselves and their communities more effectively. Mohammed made this clear in his statement, emphasising that the firearms were intended for self-defence and community protection.

The volunteers, who have been guarding against armed bandits, were advised not to use the firearms against each other. No specific details were provided about any training sessions or the nature of the training provided to the recipients. However, it is known that security forces assisted in the training process.

This move comes amidst a series of kidnappings and killings of residents in parts of Kaduna, highlighting the urgent need for increased security measures in the region. The distribution of firearms to the people of Funtua is a testament to Mohammed's commitment to the safety and well-being of his constituents.

As the community continues to grapple with the threat of bandit attacks, the volunteer groups armed and supported by Mohammed remain vigilant, working tirelessly to protect their communities and ensure peace and security for all.
