In the troubled northwestern region of Katsina State, Abubakar Mohammed, the representative of Funtua Constituency in the Katsina State House of Assembly, has taken a bold step to protect his constituents from persistent attacks by armed bandits.

Mohammed, in response to the pleas of the residents, acquired and distributed 50 firearms to volunteer groups within the community of Funtua. These groups, including those in Dikiya Makira, Maigamji, Tudun Iya Maska, and Goya, have been at the forefront of defending the rural areas surrounding Funtua against bandit attacks.

The distribution of these firearms was not a move for internal conflict among the people of Funtua. Mohammed made this clear in his statement, emphasising that the firearms were intended for self-defence and community protection.

The volunteers, who have been guarding against armed bandits, were advised not to use the firearms against each other.
