Leaders Modi and Macron discuss expedited resolution to Ukraine crisis, examine strengthening strategic partnerships

India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, and French President Emmanuel Macron held a telephone conversation on September 6, 2025, following an earlier discussion on August 21. The leaders discussed a wide range of global and regional developments, with a particular focus on efforts to bring a swift and peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Both leaders reiterated their commitment to fostering global peace and stability. Posting on Twitter following the discussion, PM Modi stated that the India-France Strategic Partnership will continue to play a key role in this endeavour. The French President expressed support for the early conclusion of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

The conversation also covered progress in bilateral collaboration across key sectors, including defence, economy, science, technology, and space. The leaders agreed to continue close coordination in support of global peace efforts and reaffirmed their dedication to deepening ties under the Horizon 2047 Roadmap, the Indo-Pacific Roadmap, and the Defence Industrial Roadmap.

Emmanuel Macron offered his perspective on the situation in Gaza during the conversation. Narendra Modi extended an invitation to Emmanuel Macron to attend the AI Impact Summit in India, scheduled for February 2026. French President Macron accepted the invitation to participate in the summit, although the exact day has not been specified in the available information.

The leaders also referenced the AI Action Summit held in Paris last February and are working towards the success of the AI Impact Summit to be held in New Delhi in 2026.
