League of American Football News:
Former NFL Quarterback Jay Cutler Faces Consequences for DUI Incident
Jay Cutler, the former NFL quarterback who had a 12-year career in the league, was arrested in October following an alcohol-related car accident. The incident resulted in a series of charges and penalties for Cutler.
On September 29, Cutler will begin serving a four-day jail sentence. In addition to his time behind bars, he will pay a $350 fine, be on unsupervised probation for one year, and attend a DUI safety class.
According to police reports, Cutler was detected to have been drinking, as evidenced by his bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and the smell of alcohol on his person. The incident occurred when Cutler rear-ended another vehicle with his pickup truck.
During the incident, Cutler offered the other driver $2,000 not to call the police and to let him drive away. However, he refused a field sobriety test and was taken to a hospital, where a blood sample was obtained after a search warrant was secured.
Two firearms were found in Cutler's car, including a loaded pistol, but a weapon possession charge was dismissed as part of the plea deal, and Cutler agreed to forfeit the pistol.
Cutler, a first-round draft pick out of Vanderbilt, had a successful NFL career, throwing for 227 touchdowns and more than 35,000 yards. Despite his impressive statistics, his only playoff appearance resulted in the Chicago Bears reaching the NFC championship game.
It is not currently known who represented Cutler as his lawyer during the trial for the alcohol-related car accident. The details of the legal proceedings remain confidential at this time.
