The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has developed a free online course aimed at enhancing data skills and problem-solving abilities in various fields. The course, titled "Statistical Thinking for Industrial Problem Solving," is designed to meet the needs of industrially-oriented engineers, scientists, and students.

The course, available 24/7 and accessible from any device, consists of seven modules of self-paced learning, totalling 25 to 30 hours. It introduces statistically designed experiments to support learning from the bench to the manufacture of viable products. Each module teaches how to define a problem, map a process, identify data, explore data, make decisions, and use quality methods and tools for building statistical and predictive models.

The course content is devised by experts from industry, academia, and those with a foot in both camps. It uses real-world industrial scenarios to contextualize the use of statistical methods and show how to link them together to solve common industrial problems. The course content will be localized into other languages to make it accessible to a wider audience.

The course uses JMP Pro software, but the knowledge and skills gained are transferrable. Familiarity with JMP software isn't necessary, as access is provided in the virtual learning environment (VLE) when you register. The software simplifies access to statistical techniques for data analysis.

Upon completion of all modules, you have the option to obtain a formal certification in Statistical Thinking for Industrial Problem Solving. After enrollment, you can access the JMP User Community and the book JMP Start Statistics for free.

Gaining insight from data is crucial in various fields, including engineering, industry, science, academia, and beyond. The use of data is particularly significant in improving health, the environment, and daily life through chemistry. The course aims to limit theoretical baggage and uses simulations, visualizations, and practical examples to convey key ideas.

The course is free and available to anyone interested in using data to solve problems. Whether you're a student, an engineer, or a scientist, this course offers valuable skills that can be applied in your professional and personal life. So, why wait? Start learning today!
