Leopoldina's Memorial Day Tours Guided for Visitors

The National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, located in the heart of Halle (Saale), invites you to embark on a unique journey through time.

At August-Bebel-Straße 50a, 06108 Halle (Saale), you can register for a special guided tour of the historical library building of the Leopoldina. Advance registration is required, and you can do so by emailing [email protected].

The tour, offered at 11 o'clock, provides a fascinating insight into the library's rich history. The building, erected in the 18th century by the Freemasons' lodge "Zu den drei Degen," is a testament to the past, showcasing traces of various architectural styles from past eras.

In addition to the on-site tour, the Leopoldina offers two special 3D tours digitally. One takes you on a journey through a historical Freemason ritual room, while the other explores the historical library building in detail. These virtual tours are accessible on screens in the main building and on the Leopoldina's website at www.leopoldina.org/about-us/library.

The 3D visualization project aims to comprehensively document and present the condition of the building and the partly precarious collections. Information about this project can be found on the Leopoldina's website.

The main building of the Leopoldina was occupied in 2012 and was later acquired by the Academy from the World Globe Foundation in 2009. The renovation of the building was completed using funds from the Economic Stimulus Package II.

Guided tours through the main building and the library are offered every full hour, starting from 10 o'clock and continuing until 3 o'clock. The tours are free for all visitors.
