Liberman conferences with Eiseknot, persists in advocating for 'parameters for the forthcoming administration'
In a series of meetings this week, Israeli leaders have been discussing the formation of a new government to address the country's security, economic, and social challenges.
On Thursday evening, MK Avigdor Liberman, the chairman of Yisrael Beytenu, met with former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot to discuss the proposed initiative. This meeting followed a meeting Liberman had with Naftali Bennett last week, also aimed at promoting the formation of a Zionist-led government.
The proposed government aims to formulate shared guidelines on key national issues such as security, the economy, the establishment of a constitution, military conscription, and the relationship between religion and state. The meetings' purpose was to discuss coordination and cooperation among the Zionist opposition parties.
A week ago, Liberman sent a letter to opposition leader Yair Lapid, calling for an urgent meeting of all Zionist opposition factions. The appeal highlights the importance of taking national responsibility and acting together to strengthen public trust. The details of the proposed alternative government structure were not disclosed in the statement.
The Zionist bloc is intended to be cohesive, responsible, and values-driven, upholding Israel's core values as a Jewish, Zionist, democratic, and liberal state. Liberman emphasizes the need for responsible, prudent, and united leadership in the new government.
The initiative does not appear to be related to the ongoing criticism of French President Emmanuel Macron for recognizing a Palestinian state by Israeli leaders.
In the past weeks, Naftali Bennett has also met with Mansour Abbas to discuss an alternative government initiative. The statement did not specify when or how the proposed meeting of all Zionist opposition factions would take place.
The proposed government is intended to replace the current government that took office on October 7. If successful, it could mark a significant shift in Israel's political landscape, offering a practical alternative to the current government, which Liberman considers to be leading Israel towards ruin.
