Syracuse University Libraries Announce Fall Workshops for Students, Faculty, and Staff

Syracuse University Libraries have announced a series of workshops for the Fall 2025 semester, offering a variety of topics designed to enhance academic journeys and provide practical skills. These workshops are free and open to attend for all students, faculty, and staff.

The workshops cover a range of subjects, from citation techniques and research strategies to the use of AI and specialized reference sources. Here's a rundown of some of the workshops:

  • Citation Workshop: Not Just Citing Articles and Books: This workshop will be held on Oct. 15 at 004 Bird Library. Registration details are available.
  • Dissertation and Thesis Writing: This workshop is scheduled for Oct. 28 at 004 Bird Library, with registration details to be announced soon.
  • Getting Started with Research: This workshop will be held on Sept. 10 at 114 Bird Library and online on Sept. 25. Registration is required for both sessions.
  • Maximizing Your Research Impact: The specifics, including the date and registration details, are yet to be determined.
  • Saving, Organizing and Citing Your Sources and Collaborating with Zotero: This workshop will be held on Sept. 11.
  • Behind the Scenes: How Wikipedia Works and How You Can Make it Better: This workshop will be held on Oct. 8 at 004 Bird Library.
  • A Student's Guide to Using Microsoft Copilot for Coursework and Research: This online workshop will be held on Sept. 26.
  • Using the Libraries as an Online or Distance Student: This online workshop will be held on Sept. 23.
  • U.S. Code of Regulations (CFR) Made Simple: A Practical Guide for Any Major: This workshop will be held on Nov. 12 at 004 Bird Library.
  • Trending Topics in Evidence Synthesis Research: This online workshop will be held on Wed. Oct. 29, with registration details to be announced.
  • Tertiary Tide: Dive into Specialized Reference Sources at an R1 Research Institution: This workshop will be held online on Oct. 21 and in 046 Bird Library on Oct. 22.
  • Introduction to ProQuest Text and Data Mining Studio Visualization Dashboard: This workshop will be held on Nov. 13 at 046 Bird Library.
  • Demystifying AI: What's Really Inside the Black Box?: This online workshop will be held on Nov. 3.

Giovanna Colosi, librarian for the School of Education and subject instruction lead, emphasizes that several workshops are especially relevant for new graduate students. Attending one or all of these workshops will provide strategies to make academic journeys more effective and manageable. Each workshop highlights a different topic, offering practical skills, research strategies, and exposure to Syracuse University Libraries' vast collection of titles, resources, and tools. The workshops also offer actionable tips that can be immediately applied to studies.

Please note that while dinner is funded by the Graduate School for the workshops on Sept. 10, 11, Oct. 8, and 25, it is not provided for all workshops. Registration is required for all workshops, and details will be announced as they become available.
