"Life-saving solidarity unfolds": National gathering of Caritas Venezuela
In the heart of Caracas, on August 19 and 20, the headquarters of the Venezuelan episcopate played host to a significant gathering. The diocesan directors of Caritas in Venezuela convened for a meeting themed "Solidarity Saves Lives."
At the helm of the event was Dr. Janeth Márquez, the Executive Director of Caritas Venezuela, who presented the meeting's objectives to the attendees. Her speech set the tone for the two-day event, focusing on the response to new emerging crises generated by climate change.
Archbishop José Luis Azuaje of Maracaibo, President of Caritas Venezuela, emphasized the importance of unity and faith in the mission of service. His words resonated throughout the meeting, underscoring the shared commitment to helping those most in need.
The lectures at the meeting delved into various topics, providing a comprehensive look at the challenges and opportunities facing Caritas Venezuela. Among these were "Humanitarian Assistance and its Perspective," "Impact of Climate Change in Venezuela and its Consequences on the Population," and "What has the People of God in Venezuela said in the consultations on Synodality?"
The essential work of the social pastoral agents on the front lines of charity was highlighted by the Apostolic Nuncio, who also conveyed a message of closeness and encouragement from His Holiness to all social pastoral agents. The Apostolic Nuncio's presence underscored the importance of the gathering, emphasizing the support from the Vatican.
The meeting served as a fundamental space for coordination, training, and accountability for the work done in the last year. The topic "Architecture of Power in Regions. Communes" was presented during the lectures, aiming to promote reflection on how the path of communion, participation, and mission in the work of Caritas could be further strengthened.
The gathering concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and unity. The work of Caritas Venezuela, now present in all ecclesiastical jurisdictions in Venezuela (dioceses, archdioceses, and vicariates), continues to make a significant impact in the lives of vulnerable communities across the country. As Dr. Janeth Márquez and Archbishop José Luis Azuaje emphasized, the mission of service is one that requires unity, faith, and solidarity. And with the support of the Vatican and the dedication of its social pastoral agents, Caritas Venezuela is well-equipped to face the challenges ahead.
