Lilo & Stitch Sequel Announced: My Personal Opinion on What I Hope won't be Included

Walt Disney Studios has exciting news for fans of the beloved film, Lilo & Stitch. A sequel to the 2025 movie release is in development. This announcement has stirred up anticipation, especially after the success of the live-action adaptation.

One of the standout aspects of the live-action Lilo & Stitch was its focus on the human stories between Lilo and Nani, deepened by having human actors. The human struggles, such as Nani's struggle as an 18-year-old trying to raise Lilo, were significantly portrayed in the live-action movie.

However, not everyone is thrilled about the sequel. Some angry fans wanted a retread of the animated version, but the writer hopes Disney stays on the track of what made Lilo & Stitch good - focusing on the heartwarming human stories and space/alien adventures.

The live-action portrayal of the other experiments might pose a visual challenge. In the animation, the experiments were less wacky and random compared to how they might appear in live action. There are also concerns about Gantu, a character who was not present in the original movie, and how he might be visualised in the sequels.

Chris Sanders, the original creator and voice of Stitch, is being lined up to write the script for the sequel. Sanders has worked on family-oriented movies such as The Lion King, Mulan, How To Train Your Dragon, and most recently, The Wild Robot.

The first sequel of the animated series involved Stitch having a "glitch" where he reverted to his former programming and acted out more than before. In the sequels and TV show of Lilo & Stitch, Dr. Jacques von Hämsterviel, a bunny-like alien character, is also present.

The animated sequels and TV show of Lilo & Stitch featured numerous experiments similar to Stitch, each with their own personalities and superpowers. In these spin-offs, Lilo and Stitch's job is to find and incorporate these new experiments into their family.

The live-action Lilo & Stitch movie ended with potential for sequel hijinks. Nani tried to start her life as a college student in San Diego, while Lilo and Stitch were back in Hawaii with a portal gun. This setup could lead to more focus on Lilo and Nani's sisterhood and space/alien adventures in the sequel.

A Disney+ subscription allows access to all things Lilo & Stitch, including the new live-action movie, with plans starting at $9.99 a month for its ad-supported plan. For those who prefer an ad-free experience, the cost is $15.99 a month, and pre-paying $159.99 for a year saves 16%.

Stay tuned for more updates on the release period for "Lilo & Stitch 2". The planned release period is not explicitly stated, but fans are eagerly waiting for more information.
