Li's exceptional performance at The Open Championship grants him a spot at The Masters and, most likely, a PGA Tour Card.
Haotong Li Shines at the 2025 Open, Secures Spot in Masters
Haotong Li, a rising star in the world of golf, has continued his impressive form after securing a victory at the Qatar Masters in February 2022 and finishing fourth at the 2025 Open.
Before participating in the DP World Tour, Li was coached by Derrick Cooper. His latest performance at the 2025 Open has further cemented his position as a force to be reckoned with.
In the final round of the Open, Li found himself trailing World No.1 Scottie Scheffler by four strokes. However, Li remained optimistic, admitting that he was playing for second place. Despite the challenging circumstances, Li put up a valiant fight, finishing the tournament at 11-under-par.
Li's impressive approach game was a key factor in his strong performance. He gained 6.66 strokes with his approach shots, ranking third in the field. This consistent performance earned him approximately $700,000 from the Open prize money payout.
Li expressed satisfaction with his performance, stating it was a good week for him. His impressive showing has also earned him a spot in next year's Masters tournament, marking his third appearance at the prestigious event.
Li's world ranking has seen a significant improvement over the years. In 2021, he was ranked 460th, but by 2022, he had moved up to 308th. As of now, Li is ranked 111th in the world.
During the tournament, Li and Scheffler shared a humorous moment when Scheffler initially didn't recognise Li's name. The two exchanged jokes during their final group play, and Li is pleased to have made a new friend in the World No.1.
Li's consistent performances have also propelled him to the third position in the Race to Dubai rankings. With his PGA Tour card likely secured via the DP World Tour, Li is looking forward to a week in Georgia next April, likely referring to the Masters tournament.
Li's last Masters appearance was seven years ago, and he is eager to make a strong impact this time around. With his talent, determination, and newfound camaraderie with Scheffler, Li is poised to make a significant mark at the Masters in 2026.
