Liverpool's reported plan for a reduced-price transfer of Marc Guehi in January has surfaced, according to a recent report.

Liverpool's potential transfer of Marc Guehi could be in the works for a reduced price in January, according to recent reports.

England defender Marc Guehi was moments away from joining Liverpool before the transfer was halted at a late stage, denying him the opportunity to play for the Premier League champions.

The transfer saga began during the summer transfer window, with Guehi, who captained Crystal Palace in the FA Cup Final and the Community Shield, being close to sealing a move to Anfield. Reports suggest that he had completed his medical before the deal fell through.

Guehi's impressive performances for Crystal Palace, which included a goal against Aston Villa, had caught the eye of Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp, and it was widely expected that he would be a valuable addition to the squad.

However, the transfer collapse occurred at a critical juncture, taking away the opportunity for Guehi to play in the Champions League. It is worth noting that Transfermarkt currently values Guehi at €45 million.

England manager Thomas Tuchel had a conversation with Guehi during a press conference before the World Cup qualifier against Andorra, praising the defender's professionalism in handling the transfer situation. Guehi remains a regular part of Tuchel's plans, having become a key player for Crystal Palace in their FA Cup Final win against Manchester City and the Community Shield game against Liverpool.

Despite the failed transfer, Liverpool journalist Paul Joyce suggests that the Reds will not pursue a transfer for Guehi in January. The name of the trainer at the club Guehi is expected to join in January 2026 is not specified in the current information. However, if Guehi were to join Liverpool, the trainer would likely be Jürgen Klopp, assuming he is still in charge.

Reports also suggest that Guehi had recorded a goodbye video to Crystal Palace fans before the transfer collapsed. It is widely expected that Guehi will leave Crystal Palace when his contract ends in June 2026.

As the transfer window closes and the World Cup approaches, the future of Marc Guehi remains uncertain. However, one thing is clear: the defender has a bright future ahead, whether it's at Crystal Palace or at a new club.
