Lloyds Bank to Finance Multiple Thousands of Eco-friendly Homes in Wales

In a significant move to enhance the lives of thousands of families across South Wales, Pobl Group, a social housing provider, has received a £100 million funding boost from Lloyds Bank to deliver 10,000 environmentally friendly homes over the next ten years.

The development plans, backed by Lloyds Bank, aim to make a major difference to South Wales' current and future housing needs, with the new homes being located across the South Wales M4 corridor, from Newport and Monmouthshire in the east to Swansea and Pembrokeshire in the west.

Jatinder Dhaliwal, regional housing director at Lloyds Bank, praised Pobl Group, stating that they show a palpable sense of responsibility to the climate and their customers, which are central to their ambitious development plans. Lloyds Bank is proud to back pioneers like Pobl Group, who have quickly understood and responded to the opportunities and challenges that net zero presents for UK housing.

The finance provided by Lloyds Bank supports the sustainable development plans of Pobl Group, which include investing in zero carbon renewable energy schemes, such as the Penderi Energy Project. The main phase of installations for the Penderi Energy Project, covering 518 out of 644 homes in Swansea, is set to be completed in July.

The team at Pobl Group is reviewing and delivering measures such as integrating solar panels, smart batteries, leveraging heat networks, improving insulation, and providing electric vehicle charging as part of their sustainable development plans. As a result, the new properties will be more energy efficient, allowing residents to save money on high heating costs.

In terms of energy efficiency ratings, 95 of the homes will have an EPC B rating or above, while close to 1,000 houses will meet EPC A standards. However, no new information about the number or location of homes, EPC ratings, or the status of the Penderi Energy Project was provided in the current paragraph.

The development of these homes represents a significant change in how housing is built and managed in Wales, according to James O'Connor, director of corporate finance at Pobl Group. Over the next four years, Pobl Group will deliver the new properties, marking a promising future for sustainable and affordable housing in South Wales.
