Local initiative takes home the prestigious "Klima kommunal" accolade for their environmental efforts.

The city and district of Göttingen, alongside its partners EAM, the city utilities of Göttingen, have established the Energy Region Göttingen (ERG) with a vision to convert the regional energy supply to renewable energy sources. This project, an outstanding example of inter-municipal cooperation, has demonstrated how sustainable and economically successful energy projects can be realised through joint efforts.

The ERG's efforts have been recognised, as it recently won the "Climate Municipal" competition by the Climate Protection and Energy Agency of Lower Saxony. The project was awarded €15,000, a testament to its significance in promoting sustainable energy solutions.

The ERG aims to shape the regional energy supply by involving cities, communities, and citizens. They will jointly plan and coordinate larger photovoltaic plants and wind farms, ensuring a collective effort towards a greener future.

The project's success is rooted in its ability to keep added value from renewable energies within the region and increase public participation in the energy transition. This approach, which has been applauded by the competition judges, emphasises the importance of community engagement in driving change.

To facilitate communication, the city administration now offers important messages via Telegram and Notify, with easy and free registration. Additionally, a digital guide named Verwalti is available to answer simple questions and direct users to the right contact person.

Users can also send feedback or opinions about the city administration directly to YourOpinion@our website, ensuring continuous improvement and engagement.

The ERG project has demonstrated how the energy transition can succeed through the cooperation of public and private actors on site. Its influence on the future regional energy supply, particularly the development of renewable energy projects, is expected to be significant.

Despite not having specific information about the leader or main chairman of Energy Region Göttingen readily available, the project's achievements underscore the potential for collaborative efforts in driving sustainable change. The Energy Region Göttingen project serves as a beacon of hope for communities aiming to transition to renewable energy sources, demonstrating that with joint efforts, a greener future is achievable.
