Landshut's Regional Steering Alliance (RSV) Driving Mental Health Improvement

In Landshut, the Regional Steering Alliance (RSV) is making significant strides in improving mental health care. Established 50 years ago as the psychosocial working group (PSAG) to reform psychiatric care through the "Psychiatrie-Enquete," the RSV continues to be a beacon of change.

The RSV, now represented by experts and local aid providers from the city and district, is networked with local outpatient and inpatient aid providers. This network enables shortening or avoiding inpatient treatment, a potential outcome of expanding outpatient treatment and counseling services.

The RSV regularly exchanges with responsible cost bearers to drive the further expansion of aid offers. This proactive approach is crucial in addressing the growing demands on care and support due to the increasing number of people suffering from mental illnesses.

In October, the RSV and its working groups will focus on the jubilee year of the Psychiatrie-Enquete. The action days, taking place at Kinopolis Landshut and the Salzstadel, will feature activities from the "Addiction Help," "Children and Youth," "Children of Mentally Ill Parents," and "Community Psychiatric Alliance" working groups.

The inaugural event will be followed by three action days, each highlighting the activities reported by each working group. At the Salzstadel, the play "All That Beauty" will be presented, adding a creative touch to the mental health discussions.

Tobias Zitzelsberger, Managing Director of PSAG Deggendorf and a scientific employee at the Technical University of Deggendorf, gave a guest lecture on "Social Work in the Course of Time - Social Psychiatry and Professional Stand." His insightful talk provided valuable perspectives on the evolution of social work and psychiatry.

The Deputy District Administrator Fritz Wittmann emphasized the importance of mental health in society. In recognition of the achievements in psychiatric reform, the Regional Steering Committee Landshut plans a week of actions in 2025, including a commemorative ceremony with key speakers and a screening of the German-Belgian film "Wann wird es endlich wieder so, wie es nie war" on October 13.

Dr. Kathrin Dornes was elected as the first chairwoman of the Regional Steering Alliance in the Landshut district authority. Her leadership is expected to further strengthen the RSV's commitment to improving and expanding the regional care structure for mental health.
