Luxurious fusion of English and French aesthetics graces this charming and whimsical family residence
A picturesque French villa, located just outside Paris, has undergone an extensive renovation and refurbishment, marking Sean Symington's biggest project to date. The transformation of this charming abode, initially designed to emulate the English country house style, has resulted in a unique blend of French elegance and English antiquity.
The heart of the house, the kitchen, was moved to the other side of the ground floor for a smoother flow towards the dining room. A boot room was built on the ground floor, providing practicality to the everyday living. The basement was developed to house a wine cellar, a pantry, a study, and a gym, catering to the modern lifestyle.
On the first floor, double doors were installed in the main bedroom, creating a bedroom, an en-suite bathroom, and a dressing room. The top floor underwent a complete reconfiguration, now home to children's bedrooms and a bathroom.
The sitting room continues the theme with yellow chairs and a striped raspberry ottoman, while the elegant vert de terre dining room features a display of antique yellow-glazed confit pots. The main bathroom boasts a yellow roll-top, and the guest bedroom showcases yellow trailing fern wallpaper and curtain fabric, with a raspberry pink canopy.
The client's folky art collection became the centrepiece of the house's design. The hand-embroidered headboard fabric in the main bedroom showcases both raspberry and yellow, and the aqua snug has raspberry accents. The cloakroom features a yellow basin and a folk-inspired GP & J Baker wallpaper.
The guest bedroom's raspberry pink canopy and the children's bathroom's raspberry red roll-top add a pop of colour to the otherwise neutral palette. The English antique furniture, sourced in England, has returned to its roots, adorning the main carpenter's room of the French villa.
Despite extensive research, the individuals who installed the English furniture doors in the villa remain unidentified. However, the transformation of this French house into a harmonious blend of English charm and French elegance is undeniably a testament to Sean Symington's skill and vision.
