In the heart of Lviv on August 30, 2025, a tragic incident unfolded that claimed the life of a prominent political figure. Andrei Parubiy, the former Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament and Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada in the 8th convocation, was killed in the city.

The shooting incident, initially reported by Igor Klymenko and Ruslan Riaboshapka, left Parubiy, who was also a People's Deputy in the 6-9th convocations, dead at the scene from his injuries. The exact circumstances leading to his death are currently under investigation by law enforcement.

Born in 1971 in the Lviv region, Parubiy began his political career in 1990 when he became a deputy of the Lviv Oblast Council. In the same year, he, along with Oleh Tyahnybok, founded the "Social-National Party of Ukraine".

Parubiy gained prominence as the commander of the "Maidan Self-Defense" during the Ukrainian Revolution of Dignity. His political career continued to flourish, leading him to become the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada in the 8th convocation.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed his condolences for Parubiy's death, and has also reacted to the incident. The head of Lviv OVA, Maxim Kozitsky, has made a statement regarding the incident as well.

No further details about the suspect or motive have been released by the authorities. The investigation into Parubiy's murder is ongoing, with law enforcement investigating the circumstances of the shooting and launching a special operation to locate and arrest the shooter. The murderer is described as wearing a courier uniform with a yellow delivery bag and escaping on an e-bike.

Andrei Parubiy graduated from the Historical Faculty of Lviv National University named after Ivan Franko and postgraduate studies at the National University "Lviv Polytechnic" in "Politology and Sociology". His life and career were marked by dedication to Ukraine and its people, and his loss will be deeply felt by many.
