Mahindra reveals modular foundation as part of latest strategy for SUV production

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., India's largest SUV maker, has taken a significant leap forward in its mission to produce internationally competitive vehicles. The automotive giant has unveiled a new modular, multi-energy architecture called NU_IQ for its next generation of vehicles.

The NU_IQ platform, revealed alongside four concept SUVs - Vision.S, Vision.T, Vision.SXT, and Vision.X - signals Mahindra's ambition to expand its global footprint with advanced design, technology, and flexibility.

Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of Mahindra's Automotive Division, stated that the NU_IQ strategy is aimed at international markets, including left-hand-drive regions. This strategic blueprint for the future of Mahindra SUVs globally, as described by R Velusamy, President - Automotive Business (Designate) and Managing Director of Mahindra Electric Automobile Ltd., is not limited to India but is also aimed at international markets.

The four concept vehicles are intended to appeal to adventurous and style-conscious buyers across both established and emerging SUV markets. Each concept embodies a unique design philosophy, with Vision.T and Vision.SXT emphasizing a "Born Iconic" identity, Vision.S channels "Sporty Solidity", and Vision.X demonstrates "Sculptural Athleticism".

The design approach for the four concept vehicles is collaborative between Mahindra's India Design Studio in Mumbai and its European centre in Banbury, UK. The theme of "Opposites Attract" is used to blend contrasting elements into expressive, futuristic forms.

The NU_IQ platform will allow for multiple body styles and powertrains while maintaining Mahindra's traditional SUV DNA. This new architecture is part of Mahindra's long-term strategy to produce vehicles that are capable, efficient, and stylish.

R Velusamy, who was appointed as the President of the Automotive Business and Managing Director of Mahindra Electric Automobile Ltd. at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. as of August 2025, emphasized that the first production models based on NU_IQ will arrive from 2027, aiming to redefine the premium SUV space in India and abroad.

The reveal of the NU_IQ platform and the four concept SUVs offers a bold preview of what's to come in the new era of mobility, giving freedom a new meaning. Mahindra's NU_IQ SUVs are guided by the evolving HEARTCORE philosophy, led by Pratap Bose, and usher in a new no-compromise era of mobility.
