The picturesque city of Imperia, nestled between the French Riviera and the Ligurian Riviera, is preparing for a special event next year. The Classic Sailing Regatta, a renowned tourist attraction, will be celebrating its 40th anniversary.

The showground for this regatta not only hosts the exciting races but also meetings and performances, making it a hub of activity throughout the year. The regatta attracts a significant number of guests to the city, contributing around 500,000 euros to the local economy.

The municipality of Imperia, under the leadership of Mayor Claudio Scajola, has regained the concession for 65 years for the completion of the marina. This project, valued at over a billion euros, includes 1,200 berths, a yacht club, a five-star hotel, residences, a refitting area, a fuel station, and more.

The Race Village for the Classic Sailing Regatta has been set up on Calata Anselmi, providing a vibrant scene for spectators and participants alike. The western part of the port will be managed by social boating, while the marina will be managed by the Marina di Imperia.

Expressions of interest for the completion of the marina will be sought within the year, and it will be divided into lots. Some lots could be given in direct management, but the structure is still being studied.

In a bid to revitalize the regatta, Mayor Scajola has relaunched the event, finding public and private resources for its funding. His personal commitment to seeing the port project through to completion is evident in the progress made so far.

Next year, for its 40th anniversary, the Classic Sailing Regatta will host the World Championships of the 12 Metre S.I., making it an even more exciting event for both participants and spectators.

The location of Imperia is strategic, with airports in Nice and Genoa, Monaco and Villanova for private jets, making it easily accessible for guests from around the world. Imperia's unique selling point is its integration of the port into the city, offering a blend of urban and maritime charm.

The Comité International de la Méditerranée (CIM) has initiated a project titled "Heading towards the centenary", and a book by the same name was recently presented by the CIM. The CIM is also working on providing shipowners with a platform of young crews to race, further enhancing the competitive spirit of the Classic Sailing Regatta.

This year's edition of the Classic Sailing Regatta is underway and is taking place on around fifty boats. As the city gears up for the 40th anniversary, the excitement is palpable, promising a spectacular event next year.
