Major Road Collision on Motorway 44 in Dortmund Leaves One Person Hurt
On August 29, 2025, a significant traffic accident occurred on the A44 motorway near Bielefeld. The incident took place between the Lichtenau Westfalen exit and the Wünnenberg junction, heading towards Dortmund, at around 15:19.
The accident involved a silo truck overtaking a motorhome. The driver of the silo truck, a 62-year-old individual from Gelsenkirchen, also hit the guardrail after the collision. The driver of the motorhome, a 59-year-old individual from the city of Dassel, sustained serious injuries.
Following the accident, the A44 motorway in the direction of Dortmund was fully closed for the accident investigation and recovery work until 20:17. The incident was investigated with the support of the PP Bielefeld's VU team.
The driver of the silo truck was treated at the scene before being taken to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, the driver remained uninjured. The motorhome veered off the road, flipped over, and ended up in a ditch.
There were two dogs in the motorhome. The fire service rescued them and took them to an animal shelter.
