Major road development underway near Lemgoer
Detmold, Germany - A significant renovation project is set to commence next week on one of the city's central access roads, Lemgoer Street, between Nordring and Feldstraße. The project, aimed at modernising and enhancing the street's infrastructure, will be divided into two construction phases.
The first phase will focus on road construction, with 4.2 million euros earmarked for the project. During this phase, traffic exiting the city will be diverted to the right at the Sylbeckestraße intersection and routed via Siegfriedstraße onto the Nordring. This diversion is necessary to facilitate the construction work.
The current drainage system no longer meets today's requirements, and the renovation project will address this issue by structurally and hydraulically renovating the other part of the existing wastewater and stormwater sewer. Part of the existing combined sewer will be separated into a stormwater and a wastewater sewer.
The renovation aims to make the street space more attractive, greener, and more modern. The street will be adapted to modern requirements, with sidewalks widened, cycling infrastructure improved, and new plantings added. A total of 50 new street trees will be planted as part of the renovation.
Future parking spaces in front of the Sparkassen branch will be arranged in the middle of the street to continue providing sufficient parking space. Access to properties along the route should generally be maintained, but short-term closures of individual access roads cannot be completely avoided.
The project is being led by Holger Strate from the Gebäudewirtschaft Lemgo. The city portal and the executing companies will strive to keep inconveniences low during the construction process.
In the second construction phase, the intersections of Georgstraße/Sylbeckestraße and Feldstraße will be converted into roundabouts. The first construction phase is expected to last about one and a half years.
It's important to note that no contributions from residents are required for the renovation project, and no street maintenance charges will be levied. The sewer construction costs amount to around 2.5 million euros, financed from the wastewater fee revenue.
The renovation of Lemgoer Street is taking place in an area with residential areas, schools, and commercial businesses in the immediate vicinity. For queries about the renovation project, Torben Gocke can be contacted at 05231 977 401 or via email.
The press release about the renovation project comes from the city portal. With up to 14,000 vehicles using Lemgoer Street daily, the renovation project is a significant step towards modernising this central access road to the city centre.
