Major Traffic Disaster on Highway 61 Close to Bergheim: One Fatality, Three Injuries Reported - Highway Completely Shut Down
In a tragic incident today, a severe traffic accident occurred on Federal Highway 61 near the Bergheim exit, heading towards Koblenz. The accident, which took place at around 4:00 PM, involved a collision between two vehicles.
Upon arrival, bystanders were performing CPR on one of the victims. Rescue efforts were swiftly initiated by emergency services, a doctor, and the fire department. Despite their best efforts, the fatally injured individual passed away at the scene. Three more injured individuals were found by the first responders.
Another doctor attended to the four injured parties, and all of them were later transported to hospitals. The police closed the highway from the Bergheim exit for several hours to conduct an investigation into the cause of the accident.
The rescue efforts were led by Brandamtmann Ulrich Braun, and approximately 35 personnel from Bergheim and Glesch/Paffendorf units, as well as the full-time station, were involved. The fire department secured the scene, ensured fire protection, and set up a mobile privacy screen. The deployment ended around 6:50 PM.
The name of the fire officer who led the response teams is not publicly available. The fire department could not provide information on the extent of the damage or the cause of the accident.
