Making friends with FAIRTIQ and cutting down on expenses
In a move to modernise public transport ticketing, the Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe (DVB) and the Verkehrsverbund Oberelbe (VVO) have introduced the FAIRTIQ app. Since 2020, the app has been available in the Dresden and Oberelbe region, enabling passengers to purchase tickets via mobile app.
The FAIRTIQ app offers a cashless and hassle-free experience for passengers. With smartphone sensors, the app automatically reminds passengers to check out at the end of their journey, eliminating the need for manual intervention during the journey. Passengers simply check in with a swipe in the FAIRTIQ app before boarding a train, tram, or bus, and upon arrival, they swipe again to end the fare calculation.
One of the key features of FAIRTIQ is its ability to determine the route and calculate the appropriate ticket. Passengers no longer need to worry about selecting the correct ticket for their journey. The app does all the calculations for them, ensuring passengers always have the right ticket.
For multiple single trips, the system automatically calculates the cheaper day ticket price. This feature is particularly beneficial for those making several trips within a day. In Dresden, if passengers travel a round trip in one tariff zone, the charge is capped at the daily ticket price of €9 from the third trip onwards.
New users of the FAIRTIQ app receive a €3 starting credit. Additionally, between September 1 and November 30, those who refer new users to FAIRTIQ will receive a €3 credit.
FAIRTIQ provides a valid ticket for the entire VVO area, making it a convenient option for those travelling across different zones. Bike carriage is also possible with a simple swipe in the FAIRTIQ app, making it an eco-friendly choice for commuters.
Unlike other apps, FAIRTIQ eliminates the need for prior ticket selection, making the ticketing process even more seamless. As of now, over 52,000 passengers have downloaded the FAIRTIQ app, with over 5,000 using it regularly.
With its user-friendly interface, cashless payment options, and automatic ticket calculation, the FAIRTIQ app is set to revolutionise public transport ticketing in Dresden and the Oberelbe region.
