Man (34 years old) stabs ex-boyfriend in the abdomen following an assault
In the early hours of Sunday morning, a shocking incident unfolded in the Murtal district town of Fohnsdorf. A 34-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman, both former partners, found themselves at the centre of a violent altercation that left the man injured.
The man was immediately taken to the LKH Judenburg hospital for initial treatment, and over the weekend, he underwent emergency surgery. Thankfully, his current condition is that he is out of danger. The woman, on the other hand, was taken into custody and has been transferred to Leoben prison.
Investigations suggest that the woman may herself have been a victim of violence in the past. However, she initially denied making a stabbing motion towards her ex-partner. A kitchen knife, approximately 20cm long, was secured by police and is currently being examined by forensic experts.
The Niklasdorf branch of the Landeskriminalamt (LKA) Steiermark questioned both individuals. Despite the refusal of the man to make a statement or cooperate with a court-ordered medical examination, the investigation into the case is ongoing. Further inquiries over an extended period are expected.
Both the man and woman have been issued with a restraining order. It is worth noting that neither of them had a previous criminal record.
As the investigation continues, the community of Fohnsdorf and the wider Murtal district await updates on this disturbing incident. The police have asked for anyone with information to come forward and contact them as soon as possible.
