Fire Breaks Out in Hagen-Mitte Building, Caused by Alleged Drunken Arson

A fire incident occurred in a multi-family building on Rembergstraße, Hagen-Mitte, on the evening of Thursday, August 28, 2025. Emergency services, including firefighters and police, responded to the scene to extinguish the kitchen fire that took place on the fourth floor of the building.

According to the available information, the cause of the fire was triggered by a 47-year-old man who was under the influence of alcohol. The man, whose name has not been disclosed, claimed to be a friend of the apartment's occupant. Further checks revealed that he was not registered in Germany.

The man stated that he had been cooking in the kitchen and fell asleep in another room, causing the fire. A voluntary breathalyzer test showed a result of nearly 2 promille for the man. Due to the risk of flight, the emergency services provisionally arrested him.

The kitchen wall and a door frame were severely damaged by smoke and heat. The Hagen Police initiated an investigation for negligent arson and are currently conducting further checks.
