Manchester resident Evan Ralph "Chip" Hughes hails from Cedar Rapids.
Evan Ralph "Chip" Hughes, a much-loved member of the Cedar Rapids community, passed away on Thursday, August 28, at the University of Iowa Hospital. He was born on March 15, 1949, in Cedar Rapids.
Hughes graduated from Jefferson High School and the University of Iowa. He had a rich and fulfilling life, leaving behind a legacy of love and memories.
Hughes was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Barbara Hughes, his beloved wife, Cathy, and two nephews. He is survived by his partner, Carol Pohlman, two daughters, Jennifer (Kerry) Jennings and Carrie (Tyler Lein) Hughes, and a granddaughter, Grace Jennings.
A private family burial will precede a memorial service for Hughes. The memorial service will be held on Friday, September 12, at 2:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 12 - 2 p.m. prior to the service.
In addition to the memorial service, a Celebration of Life will be held at Hartridge Golf Course in Manchester on Saturday, September 13, 2025.
Hughes' life was a testament to the power of love, family, and community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
