Manchester United's current season is shaping up to be another challenging one, with the team's performance falling short of expectations and the future of manager Ruben Amorim hanging in the balance.

According to recent reports, Amorim may face dismissal after collecting just 28 points from 29 Premier League games. This disappointing run has led to speculation about potential replacements, with two names at the forefront: Oliver Glasner and Andoni Iraola.

Glasner, currently managing Crystal Palace, has delivered the club's first two major trophies. His impressive work with limited resources has caught the attention of Manchester United, making him a top candidate for the position.

Iraola, on the other hand, is doing an impressive job at Bournemouth, also with limited resources. His success has not gone unnoticed by Manchester United, who have reportedly included him on their shortlist.

Amorim himself has expressed feelings of wanting to quit his position, and the club is planning for the eventuality of sacking him. However, INEOS, the footballing side of Manchester United, has not yet pulled the trigger, and it remains to be seen how long they can hold off.

Amorim's tenure at Old Trafford has been short, just shy of 10 months, but recent performances suggest that the fixture against Burnley this weekend will not be a routine win. The team's performance against League Two Grimsby was uninspired, resulting in a defeat on penalties after coming back from 2-0 down.

In his pre-Burnley press conference, Amorim stated that he needs to improve on his feelings towards the team and his role. Manchester United's remaining goals for the season are to win the FA Cup and improve their league position, but these objectives may be difficult to achieve with the current state of the team.

The change in management at Manchester United feels inevitable, and the question on everyone's mind is who will take over. Glasner and Iraola are two strong contenders, but there is also a longstanding interest in Gareth Southgate for the position. INEOS is reportedly cautious about hiring him, but only time will tell if they will take the plunge.

In the meantime, Manchester United fans can only hope for a turnaround in fortunes as the team faces another tough season at Old Trafford.
