Manchester United reportedly plotting to find a successor for Ruben Amorim
Manchester United's season has taken a turn for the challenging, with the Red Devils currently struggling in the Premier League and facing an uncertain future in the manager's seat.
Ruben Amorim, who has been at the helm for just shy of 10 months, has expressed feelings of wanting to quit his position. This comes after a disappointing performance against League Two Grimsby, which ended in a penalty shoot-out defeat, and a Carabao Cup exit that may lead to his dismissal.
In his pre-Burnley press conference, Amorim stated, "Sometimes I want to quit, sometimes I want to be here for 20 years."
The team's poor form has been evident, with Manchester United collecting just 28 points from 29 Premier League games, securing only seven wins. This has left them with only the FA Cup and their league position to focus on, as they have no European commitments this season.
The shortlist of potential replacements for Amorim includes a number of high-profile names. Oliver Glasner, the manager of Crystal Palace, is said to be the top candidate for the Manchester United manager position. Glasner is reportedly interested in taking over at Old Trafford if the opportunity arises.
Another name said to be on Manchester United's shortlist is Andoni Iraola, who is currently doing impressive work with limited resources at Bournemouth.
Gareth Southgate is also said to be of interest to Manchester United, but INEOS is reportedly cautious about hiring the former England boss.
Recent performances suggest that the game against Burnley this weekend will not be a routine win for Manchester United. The team looked uninspired against Grimsby, with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbuemo, and Benjamin Sesko, who joined Manchester United for a combined €225 million, yet to score.
It remains unclear how long INEOS will hold off before sacking Amorim. The team will be keen to turn their fortunes around and secure a strong finish to the season.
