Manchester United's connection with Rasmus Hojlund concludes, as a transfer clause within his Napoli loan agreement has been documented
Manchester United have announced a series of transfer moves in the ongoing transfer window, with Rasmus Hojlund leaving the club on a loan deal to join Napoli. The Danish striker, who joined United from Atalanta in a £72million deal in 2023, has struggled to establish himself at Old Trafford, scoring only 26 goals in 95 appearances.
Hojlund's departure comes as United have decided against signing Emi Martinez from Aston Villa, with Senne Lammens set to join instead. The club has also confirmed the sale of Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea in a £40m deal.
Meanwhile, United have bolstered their attacking options with the signing of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig in a deal worth around £74m. The Slovenian striker is expected to provide competition for places, with Joshua Zirkzee, who signed from Bologna last summer, also set to stay at Old Trafford amid the increased competition.
Napoli have an obligation to buy worth €44million [£38m] included in the deal for Hojlund. If Napoli qualify for the Champions League, they will have to pay United that fee and sign Hojlund permanently next summer.
The 23-year-old Hojlund left United at the start of the 2025/26 season, and he is set to return to action with his new club Napoli in what marks a return to Serie A football. Hojlund had expressed his intentions to stay and compete for his spot at Manchester United, but he was omitted from the matchday squad against Arsenal for the Premier League opener and hasn't featured at all throughout the season.
In addition to the arrivals of Sesko and Hojlund, United have also signed Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in moves that cost a combined £133.5m. The club is also set to bank a loan fee from the deal for Hojlund.
Ruben Amorim, United's head coach, had reportedly preferred to keep Zirkzee and sell Hojlund this summer, according to talkSPORT. The transfer activity at Old Trafford is set to continue as United look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
