Manchester United's near-miss in capturing the title in 2012 was more a result of their own shortcomings, according to Javier Hernandez, rather than Manchester City's triumphant victory.

On the fateful day of May 13, 2012, Manchester City clinched their first Premier League title of the era with a dramatic 90+3 minute winner scored by Sergio Aguero against QPR. This goal, now immortalised in Premier League history, left a bitter-sweet taste for Manchester United and their substitute, Javier Hernandez.

The Red Devils, led by Sir Alex Ferguson, began the day knowing they had to better City's result against QPR to secure the title. United were in control of their match against Sunderland, with Wayne Rooney scoring a first-half goal to secure a 1-0 victory. However, the celebrations were short-lived as news of Edin Dzeko's equaliser for City two minutes into stoppage time sent shockwaves through Old Trafford.

The Manchester United players were left shellshocked as they went to acknowledge the travelling fans after Aguero's goal. Sir Alex Ferguson furiously chewed his gum, while Javier Hernandez, among the substitutes, found the moment hurtful. The said goal capped the most remarkable final day in the history of the Premier League.

Hernandez, who had won a Premier League title the previous season, was eyeing up a second winners' medal. However, Manchester United's draw against Everton near the end of the season meant they lost the title. The 2012 Aguero goal remains a significant moment in Premier League history, denying Hernandez a hat-trick of Premier League titles.

However, Hernandez was able to extract some revenge by helping Manchester United dethrone City in the following season, securing the club's 20th league title under Ferguson's leadership. Hernandez won two Premier League titles with Manchester United, in the 2010-11 and 2012-13 seasons.

The 2012 Aguero goal was not just a blow to Manchester United, but also to Sunderland fans. As Aguero scored the winning goal for Manchester City 60 seconds later against QPR, Sunderland fans celebrated and did the Poznan, a popular dance among their supporters.

In the end, the 2012 Aguero goal served as a reminder of the unpredictability of football and the thrill of the final day of the Premier League season. Despite the bitter taste it left, it remains a moment etched in the annals of Premier League history.
