Manchester United's unsuccessful attempt to sign a LaLiga player during the summer transfer window has been exposed, according to a recent report.

In a turn of events that could have significantly impacted Manchester United's season, the Red Devils were unable to secure the loan signing of midfielder Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid during the summer transfer window.

According to reports, Manchester United made multiple attempts to bring Gallagher to Old Trafford, but Atletico Madrid refused and insisted on selling the player rather than loaning him out.

The interest in Gallagher stemmed from the perceived lack of stamina and work rate in Manchester United's current midfielders, Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte. Gallagher's energy and tireless efforts on the pitch could have provided a much-needed boost to Manchester United's fortunes this season.

Fabrizio Romano, a renowned transfer journalist, reported on the attempts by both Manchester United and Crystal Palace to sign Gallagher. The Crystal Palace academy product had also been linked with a return to the Premier League.

However, Atletico Madrid's reliance on Gallagher, particularly since his arrival, made it difficult for them to part ways with the midfielder. Diego Simeone, the Atletico Madrid manager, has frequently relied on Gallagher's versatility across the midfield. Last season alone, Gallagher made 50 appearances for the Spanish club.

Meanwhile, Manchester United bolstered their goalkeeping department by signing Senne Lammens on transfer deadline day. Lammens joins Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir, with the latter set to provide competition for the first-choice goalkeeper.

Despite missing out on Gallagher, Manchester United still have a chance to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window. Ruben Amorim, Manchester United's manager, was reportedly desperate to sign a new midfielder this summer, after a failed attempt to lure Carlos Baleba to the club. The Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder was another target for Amorim, but the transfer could not be finalised.

As the season progresses, the question remains whether Manchester United's midfield will be able to compensate for the energy and work rate that Conor Gallagher could have brought to the team.
