Mazda Boosts Prices by as Much as $1,805 in Harm's Way of Summer Sale Decline

Mazda has reported a positive trend in its year-to-date sales, with a 3.5 percent increase, totaling 293,495 units. This growth comes after a record-breaking sales year in 2024, although specific sales figures for that period have not been disclosed.

However, the company is expressing concern about the impact of price hikes on its upward momentum. Inflation and tariffs are likely contributing factors to the price increases. Every trim of the 2026 CX-90, Mazda's flagship SUV, has received a price increase, with the base price now standing at $50,495, an increase from $49,945 (+$550). The price increase for the 2026 CX-90 does not include a destination fee, which remains at $1,530.

The CX-90 saw a particularly strong month in August, with 6,801 units sold, a 12.9 percent increase from the 6,024 units sold in August 2024. Despite this growth, the CX-5, Mazda's best-selling model, saw a decline in August sales, with 11,759 units sold, down 8.8 percent from the same month in 2024. The CX-5's price has increased by $280 for the 2026 model year, with the 3.3 Turbo Preferred now starting at $42,950, an increase from $41,145 (+$1,805).

The MX-5 model, Mazda's popular roadster, also saw a price increase of $300 for the 2026 model year. The flagship PHEV model of the CX-90, known as the Premium Plus, starts at $58,500 for 2026, an increase from last year's $57,950 (+$550).

Despite these price increases, the growth in sales for Mazda is a positive sign. However, the company is monitoring the impact of these price hikes on consumer demand as they aim to maintain their momentum in the competitive automotive market.
