Medical practitioner under investigation for child molestation involving a preschooler
In a shocking turn of events, Dr. Isaias Cupino, a former family medicine practitioner at Prevea Health in Lena, was taken into custody by Oconto Falls Police on Tuesday. Dr. Cupino made his first court appearance on Friday, where his bond was set at $250,000.
The accusations against Dr. Cupino are grave. He is facing charges of child sexual assault, sexual exploitation of a child, and possession of child pornography. The criminal complaint states that an Oconto Falls Police detective reviewed the content and recognized Dr. Cupino in one of the images, along with a video showing a young child, of about toddler age, being sexually abused.
The complaint further confirms that there was indeed a child under 2 years of age known to be living at Cupino's residence. The police believed there was an imminent safety risk for the child, leading to the execution of a search warrant at an Oconto Falls home and the doctor's subsequent arrest.
Inside the home, authorities discovered a Pack 'n Play in the master bathroom, but no child's room, nor crib or bed for the toddler. Inside the Pack 'n Play, they found a pink pillow in the shape of women's breasts hidden under one of the blankets, alongside a child's Kindle tablet.
Dr. Cupino's previous job before working at Prevea Health was at Aurora Baycare Medical Center. However, he is not currently working at Prevea Health. The Prevea Health website page for Cupino has been taken down, and the old link redirects to the home page. A Prevea Health spokesperson cannot comment on specifics of the legal matter regarding the doctor's allegations but takes the situation seriously.
"The safety and well-being of patients and the community are Prevea Health's highest priority," said a spokesperson for Prevea Health.
If released from jail, Dr. Cupino is forbidden from accessing peer-to-peer file sharing and social media, and is not allowed to leave the state. He has also been ordered to have no contact with the victim or any other minors.
Dr. Cupino's next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 11. The community is urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the local authorities.
