Medical students of Kuwait host sixth annual gathering in the United Kingdom

In the heart of the UK, the sixth annual medical conference organised by Kuwaiti Medical Students in the United Kingdom took place, bringing together doctors, consultants, and researchers from various fields. The event, aimed at supporting medical students and enhancing the future role of Kuwaiti medical students in Kuwait's healthcare sector, was a hub for discussions about advancements in specialties including orthopedics, endocrinology, dentistry, pharmacy, and physical therapy.

Dr. Ahmed Hassoun, MD, FACP, FACE, Consultant Endocrinologist at Fakeeh University Hospital in Dubai, UAE, was one of the keynote speakers. He raised concerns about the alarming rise in obesity and diabetes, stating that 25% of the Kuwaiti population suffers from diabetes, 43.7% of adults are obese, and nearly half of children are overweight. Dr. Asrar Hashem, another endocrinology consultant, echoed these sentiments, warning of the growing issue.

Meanwhile, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Mutairi, an orthopedic consultant, highlighted Kuwait's advanced surgical expertise in the field, while Mohammed Al-Farhan, a physical therapist, pointed out the broadening scope of physical medicine, moving beyond just sports care.

Dr. Osama Behbehani, a dentist, emphasized the importance of perseverance in dental education and the expansion of dental programs. Ali Abdullah, a pharmacist, underlined the growing role of pharmacy in various medical fields.

Conference President Rawan Jarkhi emphasized the importance of early diagnosis, improved treatment methods, and the exchange of medical expertise. The event, free of advertisements, aimed to foster a collaborative environment for the exchange of ideas and knowledge.

The conference concluded with a renewed sense of commitment towards improving healthcare in Kuwait and beyond.
