M'era Luna festivities mark a quarter-century milestone, maintaining traditional customs.

M'era Luna, one of the largest alternative music and black scene festivals in Germany, took place last weekend in Hildesheim with around 25,000 visitors. The festival, which featured music stages, a medieval market, and numerous sales stands, was streamed live by NDR and arte Concert.

The festival was not without scrutiny, as the Main Customs Office Braunschweig conducted an inspection on August 9, 2020, focusing on minimum wage and illegal employment in various sectors, including catering, security, event technology, cleaning, and retail.

Dagmar Taeger, the press spokesperson for the Main Customs Office Braunschweig, revealed that over 91 inspections were carried out, targeting employees across these sectors. Despite the focus on potential issues, the festival had a good atmosphere, and only a few complaints were made.

Numerous bands of different genres, including medieval rock, alternative, gothic, and electro, performed during the festival. The performances took place in sunshine, contributing to the festive atmosphere.

The inspections were conducted in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, according to Taeger. Further follow-ups and measures may still result in violations or the initiation of investigations.

The festival employed over 1,000 people across various sectors. The Financial Control of Undeclared Work from the Braunschweig Main Customs Office inspected more than 90 employers and interviewed around 300 employees during the festival.

Despite the inspections, the festival was a success, providing an enjoyable experience for its visitors. The live streaming by NDR and arte Concert allowed many more to enjoy the performances from the comfort of their homes.
