Mercdes' potential top-tier electric vehicle boasts cutting-edge technology from another realm
Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology: A New Electric Mid-sized SUV
The automotive world is abuzz with the arrival of the Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology, a new mid-sized SUV that promises to shake up the electric vehicle market. This innovative vehicle is directly challenging the BMW iX3, setting the stage for an exciting competition.
The GLC with EQ Technology boasts a host of cutting-edge features, starting with its impressive driving assistance functions. Utilising 10 external cameras, five radar sensors, and 12 ultrasonic sensors, the vehicle offers a Level 2 autonomous assistance, with a lane change assistance. This technology enables the car to handle city driving with ease and safety.
The GLC with EQ Technology is equipped with a 94kWh battery that can be charged at up to 360kW speeds, ensuring quick and efficient charging. This electric vehicle replaces the now defunct EQC in the Mercedes-Benz lineup and offers a total range of up to 713km (443 miles).
One standout feature of the GLC with EQ Technology is its 'frunk', providing an additional 128 litres of storage under the bonnet. The vehicle is also bigger than its previous combustion engine counterpart, providing small gains in legroom and headroom.
The GLC with EQ Technology runs on the latest MB.OS, a system that combines artificial intelligence from Google and Microsoft. It also features the biggest screen in any Mercedes to date, a 39.1 inch Hyperscreen.
For those seeking a more eco-friendly option, the GLC with EQ Technology offers a full vegan interior, certified by the Vegan Society, and also provides a selection of Nappa leather and Softtorino leather grain options.
The GLC with EQ Technology is equipped with Airmatic intelligent air suspension, the same as featured on the Mercedes S-Class models, and has rear axle steering to make the car nimbler around town. It also boasts a new one-box braking system that provides maximum energy recuperation up to 300kW, using either manual braking or one of the resistance options.
To improve thermal management in the winter, the GLC with EQ Technology features a heat pump for more effective heating and battery conditioning.
Looking ahead, Mercedes-Benz is planning to release an Assist Plus system for the GLC with EQ Technology later in the year, enabling lane change for city driving. In the USA and China, an Assist Pro option is also planned, providing point to point driving or full level 3 autonomous driving.
The electrically powered Mercedes-Benz C-Class, following the same electric architecture as the GLC, is set to be available from the second quarter of 2026. The new GLC EQ model, on the other hand, starts production in the first quarter of 2026.
Lastly, the new C-class model is teased to offer an even more impressive 800km (497 miles) of range, making it a formidable competitor in the electric vehicle market. The GLC with EQ Technology and the upcoming C-class models are set to redefine the future of electric driving.
