Mercedes-Benz Celebrates 600,000th G-Class Production and Embraces Electrification

Mercedes-Benz has reached a significant milestone with the production of the 600,000th G-Class in Graz, Austria. This iconic vehicle, a G 580 with EQ Technology, is painted in obsidian black metallic.

After more than four decades, the G-Wagen continues to set standards in design and off-road capability. Its instantly recognizable features, such as round headlights, a side-hinged tailgate, and a boxy silhouette, remain unchanged. Underneath, the original ladder frame, all-wheel drive, and triple diff locks are still present, preserving the vehicle's off-road legend status.

The G-Class has evolved with the times, and since 2019, Mercedes' Manufaktur program has made it one of the brand's most customizable offerings. With over 20,000 paint choices available, buyers can personalize their vehicles to their liking. Moreover, more than 90% of G-Class buyers opt for bespoke touches, on average selecting three per car.

Mercedes isn't slowing down in terms of customization options for the G-Class. The company plans to release more low-volume specials and heritage-inspired editions, such as the recent "Edition Stronger Than the 1980s," which is a nod to the W460 series, the boxy brute that won over drivers in the disco decade.

In line with the brand's commitment to sustainability, the electrified G-Class has been introduced. This model boasts zero tailpipe emissions and is rated in CO2 class A under the WLTP standard, with a claimed combined energy consumption of 30.3-27.7kWh/100km.

The G-Class continues to charge ahead in terms of innovation and customization, ensuring its place as a timeless automotive icon.
