Mercedes introduces the mid-sized SUV GLC equipped with EQ technology in its latest unveiling
New Mercedes GLC with EQ Technology Unveiled for 2026 Delivery
Mercedes-Benz has announced the launch of a new mid-size SUV, the GLC, equipped with EQ technology, scheduled for delivery in 2026. The new GLC is a fully electric vehicle, similar to BMW's offering in the electric mid-size SUV segment.
The new GLC boasts several notable features, including rear-axle steering and air suspension from the start. This advanced technology promises a smooth and agile driving experience. The vehicle's interior is designed with comfort in mind, as the seats have been awarded the AGR seal. The front passenger seat features a meter of sharp display for enhanced visibility and control.
The rear passengers will enjoy plenty of space, thanks to a 2.97-meter wheelbase. Additionally, the new GLC offers a panoramic roof with a lit starry sky, adding a touch of luxury to the vehicle's interior.
Charging is a breeze with the new GLC, as it has a charging capacity of up to 330 kW. This allows it to add up to 303 kilometers in just 10 minutes. However, Mercedes plans to release four more variants of the GLC with less battery capacity and engine power, which will use LFP batteries and charge at around 200 kW.
Orders and deliveries of the new GLC are expected in 2026. The top model GLC 400 4Matic is expected to cost around 70,000 euros.
The IAA 2025 in Munich will feature a face-off between Mercedes and BMW in the great electric duel. It remains to be seen how the new GLC will compare to BMW's electric mid-size SUV.
However, it appears that the new GLC is more conservative compared to BMW's offering. This could be a strategic move by Mercedes to appeal to a wider audience.
In other news, the German automotive industry is facing challenges in catching up with Chinese carmakers. Frank Sieren, a long-time China correspondent, has expressed concerns about this issue. One challenge is the integration of apps like Alipay or WeChat in German products, which is deterring customers in China from buying European products.
Meanwhile, many everyday vehicles from Chinese brands like BYD, Chery, or Geely Group are average performers in terms of charging. China is ahead in autonomous driving, largely due to its legislation.
Interestingly, the Porsche 911 is no longer considered a status symbol in traffic jams. As electric vehicles become more popular, the focus seems to be shifting towards practicality and sustainability.
The new GLC has been tested by ntv.de, and more reviews are expected to follow as the vehicle approaches its 2026 release date. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting new offering from Mercedes-Benz.
