Mervil intends to challenge his conviction for sexual assault.

Luck Mervil, a well-known Quebecois singer and comedian, has filed an appeal against his guilty verdict for a sexual assault case that occurred 25 years ago in Rimouski. M. Véronique Talbot, Mervil's lawyer, has submitted the appeal to the court.

The alleged incident took place on the night of June 23-24, 2000, in a hotel room after Mervil and the victim, a 19-year-old woman at the time, met in a bar following a Saint-Jean-Baptiste show. The victim testified that she was drugged and raped by Mervil.

Judge James Rondeau of the Quebec Court rendered a verdict rejecting Mervil's defense. Since May 2018, Mervil's name has been on the National Sex Offender Registry and will remain there for 20 years. It is important to note that there is no public information available about an appeal being filed against this conviction.

Mervil pleaded not guilty to the charge, arguing that the victim had mistaken him for someone else and that he had not assaulted her. However, Judge Rondeau found Mervil guilty and sentenced him to 18 months in prison, which was suspended for two years less a day.

In a separate case, the founder of Just for Laughs, a prominent comedy festival, is being sued civilly. The expert mandated by the festival's founder made statements in the Rozon trial. Karine Baril, who responded to these statements, addressed the complex consequences of a sexual assault.

In a related development, author Marie Larocque found temporary residence at the OSBL Chez Doris. The consequences of a sexual assault, according to an expert in the Rozon trial, are indeed complex.

Unfortunately, we also report the passing of two prominent figures in Quebec's media landscape. Magazine editor Isabelle Vaillancourt passed away on Sunday, and the general director of Publications BLD, which publishes "Les Débrouillards" among others, also passed away.

Lucknerson Mervil has a prior legal history involving sexual crimes. In May 2018, he received a six-month home sentence after pleading guilty to a charge of sexual exploitation. As this case continues to unfold, we will keep you updated with the latest developments.
