Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has announced a series of updates for the Oculus Quest 2 headset, aimed at enhancing navigation and productivity within virtual reality. Here's a breakdown of the new features:

With the v37 update, users can now navigate digital interfaces using hand gestures. This feature, which requires updating to v37, enabling hand tracking, and connecting the Magic Keyboard through the Experimental Features panel, offers a more intuitive and immersive experience.

In addition, the update allows users to choose between Tablet or Desktop mode for window layout. Tablet mode displays a single 2D panel in a close-up window, while Desktop mode opens multiple panels further away, mimicking a traditional computer setup.

Productivity Boost

Meta is releasing a Tracked Keyboard SDK to optimize apps for the two available keyboards. This SDK, developed by Meta's Quest development teams responsible for the Meta OpenXR SDK and Interaction SDK tools, is designed to improve productivity in virtual reality.

However, it's important to note that this feature might not benefit touch typists, but it can make navigation and productivity easier for others.

Fitness and Productivity Section on Explore Page

A new Fitness and Productivity section is being added to the Explore page. This section will offer recommendations for new games, apps, and videos that focus on physical activity and productivity.

iOS users can expect to receive the link-sharing feature in the near future, while Android users can already use it through the Oculus mobile app with the v37 update.

Oculus and Apple Collaboration

Meta is updating the Oculus Quest 2 headset to support Apple's Magic Keyboard. Users can now choose to place the keyboard on a flat, light-colored surface in a well-lit room for accurate sensor detection.

Quick Action Menu Enhancements

In the Quick Action menu, hand gestures can be used to access shortcuts like taking screenshots or turning on voice commands.

Oculus plans to support more keyboards in the future, but the process is taking longer than expected.

Digital Overlay of the Magic Keyboard

Lastly, users can now see a digital version of the Magic Keyboard overlaid on the physical one, providing an additional layer of assistance and immersion.

These updates aim to make the Oculus Quest 2 headset an even more versatile and user-friendly device for virtual reality experiences. Stay tuned for more updates and improvements from Meta.
