Mid-size SUV lineup of BYD's Sealion gets an upgrade with the introduction of the Premium Extended model

BYD Launches New Plug-In Hybrid SUV: The SEALION 6 Premium Extended Range

Chinese automotive manufacturer BYD has announced the launch of a new plug-in hybrid SUV, the SEALION 6 Premium Extended Range. The vehicle will be available for sale in Australia from September 1.

The SEALION 6 Premium Extended Range builds on the success of the broader SEALION 6 line-up, which has sold over 5500 units in Australia this year, making it the nation's best-selling plug-in hybrid SUV.

Powered by BYD's DM-i (Dual Mode - Intelligent) hybrid system, the new model delivers an impressive 253kW of power and achieves 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 5.5 seconds. This performance enhancement is a significant upgrade from the Premium Standard Range's 183kW and 8.9 seconds 0-100 km/h time.

The SEALION 6 Premium Extended Range comes with a choice of two interior finishes and four exterior colours: Arctic White, Stone Grey, Harbour Grey, and Cosmos Black. The vehicle also features a larger 26.6kWh Blade Battery, a 45% increase in capacity compared to the Premium Standard Range's 18.3kWh unit.

This larger battery increases the EV-only driving range of the SEALION 6 Premium Extended Range to nearly 130km (NEDC), an increase from about 80km. Combined with the DM-i hybrid system, the SEALION 6 Premium Extended Range offers a total driving range of approximately 1000km.

The extended range hybrid system ensures flexibility for longer trips, and the vehicle's official fuel consumption figures of just 1.1L/100km make it more fuel-efficient than most conventional hybrids that typically average over 4.8L/100km.

In addition to the new SEALION 6 Premium Extended Range, the existing SEALION 6 Dynamic Extended Range is also available. The SEALION 6 Premium Extended Range is priced from $52,990 plus on-road costs.
