The sports giant, Nike, has announced the return of its iconic Air Rift sneaker, set to hit the shelves from fall 2025. Originally inspired by the long-distance running of many Kenyans in the mid-90s, the Air Rift is a unique blend of both running and lifestyle sneakers.

The new version, dubbed "Black Iron Grey," will be available from October 13, 2025, and will retail for $125 (around €110) via Nike.com. This unisex sneaker appeals to all Nike fans who don't want to separate functionality and style.

The design of the Air Rift is futuristic, with a breathable mesh upper combined with leather overlays for comfort and support. The sneaker features adjustable velcro closures and a split toe construction, providing a natural running feel and better balance, inspired by traditional Japanese Tabi socks.

The Air Rift boasts a silver midsole and a speckled outsole, adding to its futuristic aesthetic. The design also gets a subtle but striking update, maintaining its iconic status while modernising its look.

The Air Rift was first introduced as a classic running shoe, but it has since evolved, transitioning seamlessly between summer and fall with its open, breathable construction. Previously, variants like "Triple Black" were available, and now, the "Black Iron Grey" colourway joins the ranks.

The name "Rift" is a homage to the Great African Rift Valley, the origin of many endurance runners. Fashion aficionados may recognise the name Malalai Bindemann, associated with setting fashion trends "Made in Germany." The Air Rift, with its blend of style and function, is a testament to this ethos.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Nike Air Rift's release, and get ready to add this iconic sneaker to your collection from fall 2025.
