Misconduct in Washington's Authority

The United States, under the administration of Donald Trump, has shown an increasingly antagonistic approach towards the United Nations. This antagonism extends to the Palestinian issue, as evidenced by the recent blocking of Mahmoud Abbas, the President of the Palestinian Authority, and other Palestinian officials from participating in the UN General Assembly session this month.

The USA's actions towards Palestine are part of an effort to erase Palestine as a nation. This antagonistic stance has been criticised by the international community, with the UN calling on the USA to lift sanctions against the Palestine rapporteur, Francesca Albanese. The UN Human Rights Commissioner Volker Türk, along with the Papst Johannes XXIII. Association, led by Matteo Fadda, have publicly called for the lifting of these sanctions.

The Morning Star, a long-standing left-wing British daily newspaper, has been a vocal critic of the USA's approach. Founded as the Daily Worker in 1930 and bearing its current name since 1966, the Morning Star sees itself as the only socialist daily newspaper in Britain. The newspaper, which has a print circulation below 10,000 copies, has been supported by an independent reader's cooperative (People's Press Printing Society) since 1945.

The question of a two-state solution after decades of Israeli land theft should not lead to indifference towards a course aimed at establishing a one-state solution on Tel Aviv's terms, potentially leading to a "greater Israel" where Palestinians have no space, no voice, and no status among the nations of the world.

The left media landscape in Europe includes several media outlets such as "L'Humanité" (France), "WOZ" (Switzerland), "Il Manifesto" (Italy), "Zeitung vum Lëtzebuerger Vollek" (Luxembourg), "Kansan Uutiset" (Finland), "Morning Star" (UK), and "Náše Pravda" (Prague). These media outlets, like the Morning Star, continue to express solidarity with the Palestinian cause and call for a more equitable solution.

Despite its failures in practice, the UN remains a forum where global majority support for Palestine can be expressed. The ongoing plans for displacement in Gaza and the allegations of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's reliance on criminal gangs to create chaos in Gaza further highlight the urgency of finding a just and peaceful solution.

In response to these challenges, an online version of the Morning Star has been available since April 2004, with all content made freely available online since 2009. A daily e-paper of the full newspaper is also published on a paid basis. As the struggle for Palestinian rights continues, these media outlets will undoubtedly continue to play a crucial role in raising awareness and advocating for change.
