Mobile banking giant, UnionBank, introduces NFC 'Tap to Pay' service for Android users, allowing for contactless transactions.

UnionBank, a leading financial institution, has recently unveiled a new feature in its Online application – the Mobile Tap to Pay. This customer-first innovation, described by Albert Cuadrante, UnionBank's Chief Marketing & Experience Officer, as a step forward in enhancing payment security, speed, and convenience, allows NFC-enabled Android users to make contactless payments via the UnionBank app worldwide.

The Mobile Tap to Pay feature is compatible with millions of Visa contactless payment terminals globally, from local shops to overseas retailers. To activate the feature, users need to go through a one-time activation on the app. After activation, users can complete transactions by tapping their phone at any Visa contactless terminal worldwide.

To use the new function, customers need to update their UnionBank Online app. The tap-to-pay function can be launched from the app's login screen and accessed using biometric authentication for added security. Visa's tokenisation technology is used to secure each transaction, substituting a unique, encrypted code for the user's actual card details.

Users have the flexibility to link or unlink their preferred debit or credit card within the app to suit their payment needs. This means merchants never receive or store the customer's sensitive card information during a payment. The feature eliminates the need for a physical card during transactions, making payments more seamless and stress-free.

Mr. Cuadrante added that the feature brings "security, speed, and simplicity of making payments directly via the mobile app". UnionBank designed the Mobile Tap to Pay feature for everyday situations to make transactions "seamless and stress-free".
