Mobile Devices in Educational Institutions
In the educational landscape of Siegen, Germany, a new policy has been implemented in several schools, most notably the new Gesamtschule am Rosterberg. This policy involves the confiscation of mobile phones at the start of the school day.
Principal Jochen Dietrich, who oversees the Gymnasium Stift Keppel, has shared his thoughts on this measure. He notes that even the cleverest students might attempt to circumvent the rule by handing in their grandma's old second-hand mobile phones. However, Principal Dietrich expresses doubts about the effectiveness of this measure.
The Esther-Bejarano-Gesamtschule in Büschergrund, another school in Siegen, has adopted a stricter approach. Secret use of mobile phones is severely punished, and parents are required to pick up the confiscated devices to avoid further penalties for their children.
This practice of mobile phone confiscation is not limited to the Esther-Bejarano-Gesamtschule and the new Gesamtschule am Rosterberg. It also applies to the FJM and the Gymnasium on the Morgenröthe.
Principal Jochen Dietrich, who has been in the education sector for quite some time, is responsible for the decision regarding mobile phone confiscation at the Gymnasium Stift Keppel. Despite his reservations, the policy seems to be a widespread response to the challenges posed by mobile phone usage in schools across Siegen.
