Modi Praises Bihar's 'Solar Sister', Encourages Citizens to Adopt Solar Energy
In his monthly radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat', Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared inspiring stories of how solar energy is transforming lives in rural India. One such story is of Devki Ji, a resident of Muzaffarpur, Bihar, who is popularly known as 'Solar Didi'.
Devki Ji, born in the Siwan district of Bihar, has transformed her village through the use of solar pumps. Her solar pump changed the picture of her village, allowing water to reach more than 40 acres of land for irrigation. This has not only boosted irrigation in her village but has also enhanced the income of farmers. Other farmers in Devki's village have joined her campaign and have seen their crops turn green and incomes rise.
PM Modi praised Devki's work, stating that solar energy is not just a means of electricity but also a new power that brings new light to every village. He urged people across the country to adopt solar panels and harness the abundant energy radiated by the Sun in India.
Not only Devki, but hundreds of solar rice mills have been set up in various states of the country, increasing the income of farmers. PM Modi highlighted the role of solar energy in changing rural livelihoods.
During his broadcast, PM Modi also remembered India's eminent engineer Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya on his birth anniversary, which is observed as Engineers' Day. He appreciated the work of engineers in turning dreams into reality and wished every engineer in India.
In a demonstration of another innovative use of solar energy, a teen in Dubai built a solar-powered scooter to help workers beat the heat.
The government has launched the Vishwakarma Yojana to help carpenters, blacksmiths, goldsmiths, potters, sculptors, etc. The upcoming celebration of Vishwakarma Jayanti on September 17 is being observed. The holy occasion of the puja of Bhagwan Vishwakarma is also on its way in September.
Devki Ji's life has expanded beyond the confines of her home due to digital transactions. She is now receiving payment from farmers through UPI for her work as Solar Didi. This has accorded her great respect in her village.
PM Modi spoke about how solar power is transforming the lives of farmers, increasing their income, and providing a better future. He narrated Devki's inspiring story as an example of how solar energy can change rural India.
