New Sarawak Police Commissioner Announced: Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah
Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah has been appointed as the new Sarawak police commissioner, making history as the youngest individual to hold this position at the age of 47. The appointment was confirmed yesterday afternoon.
Born in Lawas, Sarawak, Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah began his career in the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) as a senior criminal investigation officer at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters. He has spent nearly 30 years working and studying across Peninsular Malaysia.
Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah holds a degree in law from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), a degree in social administration from Universiti Malaya (UM), and master's degrees in law and human resource management from UiTM and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) respectively.
Prior to his appointment, Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah served as the police chief of Penang and worked as the deputy director of investigation/law at the Bukit Aman Crime Investigation Department. He has also served twice as district police chief in Dang Wangi and Perak Tengah.
Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah's appointment comes as Datuk Mancha Ata is set to retire as the Sarawak police commissioner on September 29. He will be transferred to his new post alongside two other senior officers by the end of this month, with all three officers promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police (CP).
In a Facebook post confirming his appointment, Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah expressed gratitude for the leadership's trust in him to lead Sarawak. The post included the phrase "Insha'Allah," which means "God willing" in Arabic.
With his extensive experience and qualifications, Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah is set to serve in his birthplace and tackle the challenges that lie ahead as the new Sarawak police commissioner.
