Mohamed starts offensively for Nantes at the beginning of the football season
In the heart of the 2025/26 Ligue 1 season, Nantes secured their first victory, triumphing over Auxerre in a thrilling encounter. The match, played on August 17th, was marked by resilience, strategic adjustments, and a moment of sheer brilliance from Mohamed.
Mohamed, who often found himself in the shadows last season due to the rise of Matthis Abline, seized the opportunity to shine. When Abline came on as a striker, Mohamed worked tirelessly on the left side, showcasing his determination and versatility.
The goal, scored in the 8th minute, was a result of two decisive duels won by Nantes. Two Auxerre players got in each other's way in the middle, allowing Herba Guirassy to launch Mohamed. With an unexpected shot, he beat Auxerre goalkeeper Theo De Percin, securing the lead for Nantes.
Castro, the Nantes coach, praised Mohamed's performance, calling him a player of great quality in the box. He also noted that he has three strong and different players for the center-forward position, each performing well enough to be a starter.
Nantes held on despite Auxerre's maneuvers in the rain and gusts of wind, demonstrating resilience that was missing at the end of last season. However, the team's play was less effective than in their previous match against Strasbourg, with Nantes playing small, pressing less, and suffering more against Auxerre.
Anthony Lopes, the Nantes goalkeeper, made four important saves during the match. His observation that Mohamed was rewarded for his performances in preseason and since the start of the season resonated with the team's efforts and dedication.
After two defeats, the victory against Auxerre was less about style and more about focus on the result. For Nantes, it was an important win in the mental aspect, providing a boost of confidence as they continue their journey in the Ligue 1.
