Aditi Mayer: Digital Storyteller and Sustainable Fashion Advocate

Aditi Mayer, a digital storytelling fellow with National Geographic, has made a name for herself in the world of sustainable fashion and photojournalism. Based in Los Angeles, California, Mayer's work focuses on highlighting the stories of communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis, particularly those in the landscapes they call home.

Mayer's passion for storytelling and the environment stems from her childhood memories. One of her fondest memories is spending time with her grandparents, a connection that instilled in her a deep respect for the Earth and the importance of honoring it.

Mayer's biggest recent inspiration comes from the cohort of folks who have led the creation of the first Amazon Union. This inspiration is reflected in her work, as she advocates for fair trade, labor rights, and social justice in the fashion industry.

Mayer's favorite holiday is Divali/Bandi Chhor Divas, a festival of lights that marks the victory of good over evil. She also has a soft spot for forests over beaches, finding solace and inspiration in the tranquility of woodlands.

In her personal life, Mayer is currently attempting to learn how to DJ and is the proud owner of a German shepherd border collie named Elichi. She is also an advocate for sustainable fashion, often seen wearing handwoven clothing from brands like AΜ„roka based out of India.

Mayer's favorite thing to photograph is communities in the landscapes they steward. One of her favorite projects was a month-long stint in Doti, Nepal, where she spent time with a matriarchal farming community.

Looking ahead, Mayer is excited to be gearing up to go to India later this summer for a project focusing on social and environmental justice alongside the fashion supply chain. She is inspired by the guiding principles of the Black Lives Matter movement and the climate activist Vandana Shiva.

As for her current projects, there is no information available about the specific endeavors she will be undertaking in India this summer. However, one can expect that they will continue to reflect her commitment to storytelling, sustainability, and social justice.
