Monthly Remark by the President on Readiness for Nationwide Emergencies
In the wake of the devastating California wildfires that have claimed at least 30 lives and left hundreds of billions of dollars in damages, the President has extended his deepest sympathies to those affected. The President's thoughts are with the families who have lost loved ones, those who have been displaced, and all who have suffered.
To expedite the response and recovery efforts, an Executive Order has been signed. The President pledges to work alongside State and local leaders to prepare for the needs of citizens in times of disaster. This commitment follows a series of crises over the past year, including hurricanes Helene and Erin, catastrophic flooding in Texas, and blazing fires in California.
The Administration recognizes the importance of disaster preparedness, emphasizing the need for a plan in place before a crisis occurs. Citizens are encouraged to sign up for mobile alerts, set aside emergency savings, prepare a disaster supply kit, and discuss emergency responses with their children.
The Administration also expresses gratitude to every heroic first responder who embodies the strength and determination of the American spirit. Unsung heroes who have assisted with recovery efforts following these disasters are not forgotten.
However, the Administration has criticized past decisions made by State leaders, stating that they exacerbated the wildfires. Public responders were unable to tame the fires due to dry hydrants, empty reservoirs, and inadequate water infrastructure.
In an effort to improve the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) disaster response capability, a Task Force, known as the "FEMA Reform Task Force," was established in the first month of the current Administration. The Task Force's mission is to assess the Agency's ability to address disasters effectively.
The Administration has also addressed the issue of misappropriated disaster response funds in the past. It has been stated that the previous administration diverted funds to illegal immigrants and left-wing Government programs, leaving citizens unprepared for crises.
In response to the largest wildfire hazardous waste cleanup in the history of the Environmental Protection Agency, the Administration reaffirms its commitment to providing resources and support to every American community for disaster preparedness. California leaders are urged to prioritize disaster preparedness over agendas like the Green New Scam, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and to retain first responders rather than firing them for refusing the COVID-19 vaccine.
The Administration's unwavering commitment to the people of California and the nation as a whole is clear. As the recovery process continues, the President and his Administration stand ready to support the affected communities in their time of need.
