Top 10 Most Popular Ex-Lease Cars in Germany's Private Market

The used-vehicle market in Germany is on the rise, according to data from LeasePlan Deutschland. The company, which recently rebranded as Ayvens on July 1, 2021, has analysed the sales of its former lease vehicles to private citizens for the first seven months of this year.

The Ford Focus maintains its position as the most popular ex-lease car, accounting for a significant 19% share of LeasePlan's overall sales volume. The Hyundai i30 follows closely in second place, with a 7% share, making it the tenth most popular ex-lease car.

The VW Passat is the eighth most popular ex-lease car, with an 8% share, while the Kia Ceed ranks third, with an 11% share. The Hyundai Kona comes in second, accounting for 12% of LeasePlan's overall sales volume.

The Renault Zoe and VW Golf VII tie for the fifth spot, each accounting for an 8% share of LeasePlan's overall sales volume. The Nissan Leaf is the fourth most popular ex-lease car, representing a 10% share. Kia XCeed also makes it to the top 10, accounting for a 7% share.

Rounding out the top 10 is the Mercedes Benz C-Klasse, accounting for a 7% share of LeasePlan's overall sales volume.

Martin Koessler, Managing Director of LeasePlan in Germany, stated that the summer months are an ideal time to buy or lease a used car. However, it's important to note that while the market is doing better, with more supply and lower prices compared to the start of the year, prices are not yet back at pre-pandemic levels.

Moreover, there is an increasing demand for electric vehicles (EVs) in the used-car market, with the Nissan Leaf and Renault Zoe being popular choices.

It's worth mentioning that the data provided by LeasePlan Deutschland only indicates trends within their own lease vehicle sales and may not represent the entire used-vehicle market in Germany.

Despite the rebranding, LeasePlan in Germany is yet to rebrand as Ayvens. Nonetheless, the company's data provides valuable insights into the current trends in the used-vehicle market in Germany.
